This meeting had been delayed from the 31st July due to impending poor weather, so was today an improvement?

We were most fortunate in getting a lift from the Dovestones car park up to Chew Reservoir by the RSPB volunteer group who were working in the area. Our thanks go to Ken Gartside for organising the lift with Kate Hanley and  John Bird of the RSPB. This saved us at least an hour and a long walk uphill to Chew Reservoir.

One of the days objectives was to locate the Labrador Tea which had established itself in several locations in the Peak District, with one being located near Chew Reservoir. However, it was decided that we would initially survey the southern bank of the reservoir.

We then set out across the moors to locate the Labrador Tea (Ledum groenlandicum) which was reported at SE038027. On arriving in the square we spread out and eventually found a well established plant, which now exceeded 3mt x 2mt  and having several daughter plants also becoming established around the main plant. We were joined at this point by some of the RSPB volunteers.

Having made our way back to the starting point of the dam wall, we then began our descent of the Chew Road, surveying the roadside vegetation along the way, arriving back at the Dovestones car park at 4pm.  One or two members taking advantage of the returning RSPB volunteers to accept a lift back down,
